About Wells High School



"Our mission is to empower all students through individualized instruction to become literate critical thinkers and problem solvers committed to civic engagement."

Wells High School, in a collaborative effort involving personnel, students, family and community members, ensures that all students have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully confront the challenges they will face in their future. Wells High School serves almost 500 students in grades nine through twelve.

Wells High School sets high academic expectations by providing all students a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum. High behavioral expectations stress the importance of communicating effectively, working cooperatively, making responsible and informed decisions and respecting each other's uniqueness. Wells High School addresses differences in student learning by utilizing a variety of effective instructional and assessment strategies. Students are encourages to develop an awareness of their environment and recognize their responsibilities as part of the global community.

Wells High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. Each year, approximately 79% of students move on to post-secondary education. Wells High School, a Class B school, offers sixteen athletic programs with 29 teams participating in the Western Maine and Campbell Conferences. Among the co-curricular activities are a strong band and choral program, an award-winning school newspaper and a highly acclaimed drama program. Wells High School offers 9 Advanced Placement (AP) classes and is in partnership with York County Community College to offer a unique Early College Program (ECP) to juniors and seniors.
